Having a driving test in the dark is not something learner drivers usually worry about in the morning. However, learner drivers with a driving test booked for tomorrow morning need to have their headlights at the ready.

The Eclipse is due to begin at 8.30am and last until 10.30am with a peak at 9.30am. The sun is set to be up to 98% covered during the peak of the eclipse (depending on your location) but even so, rush hour will be in darkness tomorrow morning.

Our top tips for learner drivers during the eclipse:

• For those who have a driving test during the eclipse, it’s important to stay focused and avoid becoming distracted by what is happening up above.

• This week drivers have been warned to stay focused and avoid looking up at the sky, so be observant of other drivers’ behaviour as well as your own.

• Before starting your driving test ensure you know where the controls such as the headlights are in the car that you are taking your driving test in.

• If you are privately practising with a friend or family member take extra care to be observant of your surroundings and focus on the roads. Better still, sit back and let the car owner drive so you can sit back and take in the eclipse.

• Keep an eye out on @DVSA_HelpMe for any cancellations

Good luck to those who do have a driving lesson in the morning, you never know the eclipse may just be your lucky charm!
