After you pass your driving test, you’ll finally be able to hold your full licence. Don't jump the gun though, you'll still have to be patient as it doesn't come straight away. Here are 5 things that you may not have known about receiving your full licence

1. You can hand over your provisional licence to the examiner

After you pass your examiner will ask to take your provisional licence, so they can send it off to the DVLA to replace it for your full licence. This licence will then be delivered to address stated on the provisional licence.

2. If you've changed your name or address or have a paper licence

If the name or address on your provisional licence does not match your current name or address, or you have a paper licence, you will HAVE to send off for your own full licence. To do this you will need to...

(Those with paper licences should also send a passport photograph to be used as the photo for their driving licence).

3. You’ll need to change your insurance

After you pass your driving test, you will no longer be a learner driver. This means that the learner insurance you have been using whilst practising is no longer valid. To continue receiving cover, you will need to get a full licence insurance policy. If you are customer with InsureLearnerDriver, you will already be able to make that transition smoothly by getting your annual insurance with our sister company Safely Insured. Just call their young drivers team on 03303 331 256

4. Your new full licence can take up to 3 weeks to arrive

It does take some time to receive your full photo licence. It can take up to 3 weeks. During that time you can still drive, as you’re still registered on the government system as a fully licensed driver. Although, make sure to carry your signed pass certificate as proof of passing, when you go driving. You may have to find an alternative form of ID if you want to go out and celebrate your pass.

5. You won’t receive a paper counterpart

The DVLA no longer issues a paper counterpart to the driving licence, everything is online and automated. Keep these things in mind after you pass your driving test. That way you won't have to worry about what you can and can't do after you've passed. You can simply enjoy the fact you've passed!
