Since it something almost everyone goes through – there seem to be a lot of myths about the driving test out there... Whether you’ve heard it from a mate who swears it’s true, or it’s part of your Nan’s regular ramblings – we’ve got the facts for you.

Driving Test Myth 1: Intensive driving courses offer guaranteed passes

Even if an intensive driving course advertises a “garunteed pass” as part of their intensive driving course package – this isn’t set in stone. Driving Test Myth 2: Driving examiners are only allowed to pass a certain number of pupils a week

Simply put, this is just not true in any way. In fact, you may have heard this one from someone who failed their test and is trying to make themselves feel better… Driving examiners aren’t out there to reach a number, they have a strict set criteria when it comes to deciding who to pass. Just remember what your driving instructor taught you and you will be fine!

Driving Test Myth 3: The theory test is based on common sense

Even though part of the theory test involves in using your own initiative to detect hazards – it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare for the test! There are some questions on the test that you wouldn’t come across in every day life if you’re not an experienced driver. So, make sure you brush up on the highway code prior to the test! Otherwise you might face having to fork out extra cash to retake it.

Driving Test Myth 4: If you stall in your driving test, you’ll be failed

Some learners experience a stall in their driving tests and already class it as a fail. What they don’t know, is that if they recover in an appropriate and controlled manor, it won’t be considered as a major fault – meaning you could still pass! Don’t be disheartened if it happens to you, you still have a chance!

Driving Test Myth 5: You’re more likely to pass with a certain examiner

Every test centre has the rumoured notorious examiner who fails more learners than any others. Driving examiners are professionals in their fields, and they aren’t out there to get you. Their track records are closely monitored and any discrepancies would be picked up right away! So don’t worry about what examiner you’ll get and focus more on your driving!
