Heading into the Valleys, we have a look at what driving schools are really something special in Wales.

Here’s our top 5 …

Drive for Life Driver Training – Anglesey

Drive for Life Driver Training has been in business since 2002 and since then has built a reputation for highly constructive and informative lessons.

You will never find yourself aimlessly driving without a purpose, and you will always be informed about what you need to do to improve. At the beginning of each lesson there is an analysis of the lesson before and goals are then set, to be achieved by the end of the lesson. It is an efficient and effective form of teaching that has served them well for the past 14 years.

Learners can also review their lesson by watching back the session using Drive for Life’s in car cameras.

The school’s efficiency is only matched by their skill. Wyn Owen (owner of Drive for Life Driver Training) received a 5 out of 6 ranking from the DVSA in 2012/13. In those years, only 30% of those 16,900 instructors tested received a level 5 or 6 ranking.

TESTIMONIAL

“helped me get ready for my test and I passed, despite ending up with one of the tougher test routes.” Scott

Hourly Rate: £28 (see website for offers and block bookings).

Go Learn 2 Drive – Bangor & Colwyn Bay

Go Learn 2 Drive is run by an ex-military, ADI approved, driving instructor of 8 years – Phil Jones. It’s also run by Ellie Pearson, a qualified fleet trainer. Both believe a patient and direct approach is the best way to teach students and offer that style throughout all their courses.

Go Learn 2 Drive have a successful intensive course which they believe makes the student 10 times more likely to pass their test first time. They also offer a pass plus course to learn the parts of driving that aren’t greatly covered in lessons e.g. Motorways and rural roads.

Students also have the option to save money on their lessons when they introduce a friend.

TESTIMONIAL

“A huge thank you to Phil who has been great over the last couple of weeks! Helping me pass my test first time. Really informative, helpful and just a great guy!” Paul

Hourly Rate: £24 (manual) £26 (automatic) (see website for offers and block bookings).

Andrew’s Driving School – Conwy

Andrew’s Driving School definitely tries to inform their students as much as possible. The site is saturated with informative content. This includes their regularly updated blog page and easy to navigate webpages.

When a student has a lesson with Andrew’s, they can expect smart and professional instruction. They can also expect to learn in a quality car. Cars are never more than 12 months old, and currently lessons are held in either their Ford Fiesta Eco Boost or Hyundai i10.

Pass rates are very high. In fact why not check out just how many people have passed first time.

TESTIMONIAL

“Amazing driving school; passed first time. Andy is great, patient and easy going, always available for help and advice.” Vicky

Hourly Rate: £24 (see website for offers and block bookings).

M4 Motoring Driving School – Newport

M4 Motoring Driving School provides well priced, quality lessons as standard. Their motto is “100% learning – 100% fun”.

M4 don’t think learning should be a chore and the ability to provide enjoyable lessons is particularly important when dealing with their under 17 students. When you take on the challenge of guiding youngsters through some of the most daunting parts of learning to drive (that first move, the first gear change) they have to enjoy it.

The school does not fail in its ambitions. Check out all their happy successful students on their Hall of Fame page.

TESTIMONIAL

“Totally recommend Tom Yeates! Amazing driving instructor. Passed first time. Couldn’t of done it if it wasn’t for him.” Megan

Hourly Rate: £21 (see website for offers and block bookings).

Autotutors – Clywd

Not you’re average driving school; Autotutors is one of the only 17+ driving schools that also provide track day tuition. Track day tuition is given by seasoned race circuit instructor Tim Witham, who has over 15 years experience teaching ‘F1 style driving techniques’ to professionals and ambitious drivers.

However, it’s not all thrills and fast cars; they are a driving school after all and as such provide standard driving lessons too. These sessions are thorough and delivered in a highly motivating manner.

Autotutors have trained instructors in cognitive behavioural therapy and motivational interviewing, meaning students are put in the care of very able and supportive hands. These skills are integral to the school’s success and are why they feature on our list.

TESTIMONIAL

“A really well run and professional driving school for young people to get a safe introduction to driving.” Vicky

Hourly Rate: £24 (see website for offers and specialist session costs).
