It isn’t long until A-level results are released and the thought of university soon becomes a reality, a time where planning, nerves and excitement kick in and learning to drive is put on the backburner.

However, pursuing that driving licence as much as possible before starting University can be worth considering. University passes by like a whirlwind and before you know it you’ll be a job-seeking graduate with little money for learning to drive. So if you are already half way there, here are some reasons as to why the final push to get that licence before September might be a good idea …

Consider time

Being at university often involves living away from home, but, for now you know what is happening in your life and how much time and money you have. Once you have finished university this will be a different story – you don’t exactly know where you’ll be and what you will be doing!

Spend wisely

The student loan can seem like a small fortune when receiving your first instalment, however you will soon discover that the purpose of the loan i.e. the necessities, is pretty much all it actually covers. The thought of spending at least £20 of that on an hour’s driving lesson once a week will be a luxury only a few can manage to do.

You may have been working part-time whilst at sixth form or college and have accumulated some savings for the fresher’s week at your new university. So why not use this to secure a driving licence, this will be something that you can show you have achieved from your savings and something that will help towards your future.

A skill for life

They say learning to drive is like ‘learning to ride a bike’ and this really is the case for most, driving really is a skill that you can keep for life. Getting a driving licence before uni will mean that it is something that is ticked off the list and one less thing to worry about and better still, it will last for life.

By the time you have finished university you would have held your licence for a few years and you will also be a few years older, this means that insurance will be easier to obtain and better still, much cheaper!

Improve your employment credibility

Once you finish your course you may be looking for a graduate job and come across a large proportion that require a driving licence. However it may be too late to pick up where you left off. It is common for employers to ask for a driving licence as they want the reassurance that no matter what, you have alternative modes of transport to get to work.

Increase the scope of your job search

When looking for a job after university you may envisage an office job in the city centre and therefore why would you need a driving licence? However, not everyday will be the same, there may be occasions where you need to travel for conferences and meetings etc. and therefore a driving licence is a great asset to have.
